Air Intake and Exhaust Placement
For best results, fresh air should enter from one side of the garage and exit from the opposite side.
- Air intakes should be placed low, near the garage door or an exterior wall.
- Exhaust vents should be positioned high and on the opposite side to promote full air circulation.
If you often start engines indoors, consider installing a flexible exhaust hose that connects directly to the vehicle’s tailpipe. This setup removes fumes before they spread throughout the space.
Controlling Moisture and Condensation
Moisture is a common problem in garages, especially during winter. When you park a wet car inside, the water evaporates and can condense on walls and ceilings. Over time, this leads to rust, mold, and unpleasant odors.

Noise is another factor to consider. Choose a quiet fan if it will run continuously or if your garage is attached to your home. Look for models rated for low decibel levels to minimize disturbance.

To keep your ventilation system working efficiently, perform regular maintenance. Clean filters and vents a few times a year, and check that fans run smoothly without unusual noise or vibration. If you use an exhaust hose system, inspect it for cracks or leaks.
